Join Heather Phillipson and Holly Davey for a relaxed online teatime discussion about work, life and the places we find ourselves.
Heather joined Holly during her exhibition at g39, The Conversation in 2017 in a talk. With so many changes in the last few years, in the world as well as within their own practices, we revisit that ongoing ‘conversation’ between them both.
Heather Phillipson works across video, sculpture, web projects, music, drawing and poetry. RUPTURE NO 1: blowtorching the bitten peach, her vast, audiovisual and sculptural commission for the Duveens Galleries at Tate Britain, runs until January 2022 and THE END, her sculpture for the Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square, is up until July 2022. Other recent commissions include new audio-collages for Radio 3 and Art on the Underground in 2020, installations for the Shanghai Biennial 2021, Sharjah Biennial 14 and the Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin, both in2019, and a major solo show at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, in 2018.
Phillipson is also an award-winning poet and has published five volumes of poetry. Her most recent collection is ‘Whip-hot & Grippy’, published by Bloodaxe Books in 2019. She received the Film London Jarman Award in 2016 and was awarded the European Film Festival selection at the 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2018.
Holly Davey‘s practice incorprates photography, video, text, sculpture and performance. She works with ideas around absence, place and archive. She has had a number of commissions working with collections and archives including Here is Where We Came From at Plymouth Museum and Gallery; There is No There There, A La Ronde, Exeter; Here Is Where We Meet, for Situtations, The Nameless Grace, Holburne Museum, Bath; and Nothing Is What It Is Because Everything Is What It Isn’t, National Museum Wales.
Her most recent show, a solo exhibition, A Script for an Archive at Chapter, Cardiff and Danielle Arnaud Gallery, London, 2020, was developed at The British School at Rome, 2019. She had a major solo show The Conversation at g39, Cardiff in 2017 and in 2017. She has recently gained a PhD place at The Slade School of Fine Art, London commencing in Autumn 2021.
